Transition set up
On Sunday May 6th was the day to prepare for my first race of all. Our in house triathlon, the distance was a 500m swim, 16.5km bike and 6.5km run. The swim to bike I didn't do to well. I was behind a lenght in my lane. I got out of the water threw on my jacket, glasses, and helmet and off I went. I caught up to to a bunch of people. I went the wrong way a couple of times. This is so cool. I'm high fiving every one from the run, as I was passing some people... I passed a bunch of more people from my run. I had to go to the washroom my whole run. My coach handed me some water I'm like no I need to pee, he's like there's washrooms right there. I'm like no I'll wait.
I finished 4th over all. All thanks to Dave (aka) Noisey for yelling at me and taking me out for the rides and the Velodrome track.
My way home I didn't do to well. I got hit by a car, I went through a green light. The car was turning left. She either didn't see me, or couldn't judge the fact that a person on a bike was doing the same speed as a car. I just couldn't stop in time. I ended up hitting the back end just before her wheel. The pain felt as if someone was standing on my whole stomach and I coudn't breath. When I was some what breathing it felt as if knives were stabbing me. They found a bruised liver, a bleeding bladder, my shoulder and legs are pretty messed up. Good thing is nothing broke and my helmet saved my life.
I'm off for a week, and nothing too heavy after that. Which means, they said I can't do my goal race in June. But we'll have to see about that. This vegan girl means power. I'm not giving up.
It's only been two days, there's anger inside me. I can't run, I can't ride, I can't swim. This is a huge set back for me. It really does suck. In the mean time I have to focus on my health and getting better.
The day I got released. I went to the track and cheered on the Vega Guy (Dave) I was in charge of ringing the bell. I got to hear the guys telling me their horror stories about their heavy hits. There were some good ones.
I'll be back on my bike in 5 days I'm sure of it... I'll be avoiding busy traffic in the mean time.
Here's some pictures of my race.
BTW can you spot me out? Probably not because I have my face in the water.
Keeping up to date.
Last week was my first time on the Velodrome track. Dave took me out for a few hrs. Man does it ever get cold when you're not warmed up. We practiced pacing. Getting off and stoping my bike. It was awesome. I'll be going to the track twice a week. Thanks for taking me Dave !
It was wet and mudding riding the past couple of weeks. But things are looking pretty clear this week. I'm still up to date with my swimming. It seems the work outs are get harder as the time goes by
Yesturday work out was
Warm up 200 drill, 200 kick, 200 swim
Main 5*400 build 10 sec rest every 400 completed.
200 decrease
200 cool down = 3kms
Time was 7.15 per 400m.... I'm going to work more on speeding up the first 100m. I'm a slow starter lol :) the first 100m I was thinking "holey I have a long way to go" Okay take it slow, I think I'm hungary, maybe not, keep going" stare at the tiles and move" My coach told me that I did an extra 50m the first and second one and the last one I did an extra 100m. I'm not sure if the time above is counting on the extra metres I did.
I found out in my race. They'll place a kick board right in front of you for your last 50m. FEW one less thing I have to worry about.
We had an OA meeting yesturday. I met Em in person for the first time. And Tanya who is visiting Victoria. What a great surprise. Great to see you both. Also two others who are interested in becoming memebers. The meeting was longer then most :)
Thanks for the goodies Sequel. I have enough Vega products to last me over a month.
Today I have a easy swim. I'm going to ride out to visit some family. Which is about 25k there and back. Then a run in the evening with the club.
TTFN:)
This morning it had to do with long endurance. Which was a great change up from the day before. The practice was
warm up, 200 side kick, 200 kick, 200 drill, 200 swim, 200 build
Main set, 4*400 build up @ 20sec rst bwt 400's
4*50 explode 50 esy 50 build up 50 fst 50 fster
200 esy =2800m + 400 pull (focused on high elbows + reaching + driving water)
3200m
I picked up today's alive magazine... great article by Brendan Brazier.
Also a great interview with Simon Whitfield. Wowee, two cute athletes in one magazine :0
www.alive.com So pick one up, be sure to recycle when you're done with it.!
I just finished cutting an avacado in half now all I need is a spoon. YUMMMY gotta go eat now.
Wow, what a week, of fun training (recovery easy week) . I'm on six days a week training in the pool, I'm in spin class 3 times a week and running about 4-5 days. Plus I manage to find a one day off to eat a lot and recover. I also figure out times to practice yoga. I do this before the sun comes up and the following afternoon. Then I jump up to work in the evenings. Then do it all over again :) People think I'm crazy for this dedication. It's nothing when you're having fun :)
Thanks Dave for everything, you've been such a great friend :) BIG HUG!!!! I'm sorry I didn't make it to our first official OA ride. So next friday you and Andy can ride with me. Don't forget to bring a PSP or a camera for friday heheh! I'll tell you why when I talk to you next.
Tomorrow is going to be Total Immersion. I have a copy of our first video, I'm not so sure if I can copy it from here. Can anyone tell me if I can?
Tonight is our Party and a gear fitting. I think they'll be offended when I tell them my gear is going to be green and orange. I mean come on, it's what I believe in !!!
Here's a picture of my new bike
The other picture is Dave S speaking at the Seal Protest. There was about 70 people there.
Also the other is at the Victoria Health show.
